Family Search: Historical Images

The following will help you get a handle on information that could be of value to your search for Family data.
The chart linked here will be a decent guide.
To access the Historical Images, log into your FS Account: Click on Search, then at the top of the page: Historical Images:
You can begin with the search, but if you get lost or cannot figure it all out, then use the chart I have created to access the information.

Backtrack to Search, Catalog, and plug in the DGS Film number of interest from the Chart in the 'Fiche-Film' slot.

Most of the Digital Films have indexes.
If there is no index, investigate to determine if the records were filmed in Chronological Order as many times they are.

Be sure to check Dakota County Neighbors when doing a Historical Image Search

Send a note to the County Coordinator

Searching for Vital Records for Dakota County has presented some problems. It seems that the search engines for both FS and Ancestry consistently confuse North and South Dakota with Dakota County, Minnesota.

The only way around it is to do the search and then check the information for clues. Many of the old records simply say "Dakota" on them with no other specific location information.
Some of the databases on FS & Ancestry are further searchable if the Township is entered.

Here is a list of Townships
Castle Rock ~ Douglas ~  Empire ~  Eureka Greenvale  Hampton ~ Marshan ~  Nininger Randolph ~  Ravenna   Sciota ~  Vermillion ~ Waterford

Use the Twp's when you search, it will help.
